Health
specialists call this intimate health condition « vulvitis ».
Newborns and young girls can suffer from it. It's an infection that irritates
the vulva, the outer part of a woman's genital tract. Just as there are risk
factors for adult women, the same applies to little girls. Parents can take
steps to prevent this from happening to their daughters, and treatments adapted
to early childhood are available for these infections.
There
are clinical signs that should prompt parents to take their young daughters to
see a gynaecologist, or their adult daughters to see a gynaecologist. Professor
Fanny Hounkponou Ahouingnan, Gynaecologist-Obstetrician at the CHUD
Borgou/Alibori and at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Parakou
(Benin) explains that « when a girl or woman suffers from vulvitis, the
main symptoms are itching (pruritus) and redness of the vulva due to
inflammation of the vulva. There may also be scratching lesions (sores) due to
scratching by the woman or girl. Other signs may include oedema of the vulva. Other
signs may also be observed, such as oedema of the vulva ».
Risk
factors in young girls
Vulvitis
is caused by a particular germ, and treatment depends on the type of germ. This
is why it's important to seek medical advice for yourself or your daughter if
any signs appear.Well before the doctor states that it is quite possible for
the little girl to suffer from vulvitis.According to Professor Fanny Hounkponou
Ahouingnan, Gynaecologist-Obstetrician at the CHUD Borgou/Alibori, « the
main cause of vulvitis in children is nappy liners. Often the period of use is
exceeded. The faeces and urine left behind by the baby infect the vulva.Failure
to keep the vulva clean can also lead to infection. For example, not washing
your baby regularly after playing on the floor, or having her wear the same
underwear for several days without washing it first, can lead to a vulvar
infection ».
Advice
Vulvitis
is an inflammation to be taken seriously. It can lead to complications. To avoid
this happening, parents should have their children consulted as soon as
possible, as should adult women.Only health specialists can provide the right
treatment for complete satisfaction.Parents can also apply the hygiene rules
discussed above to prevent their children from developing this health problem.
