The
President of the Republic Faure Gnassingbé inaugurated the Dogta-Lafiè
reference hospital on Wednesday 26 April 2023. This inauguration is part of the
celebrations of the 63rd anniversary of Togo's independence.
Togo
is now equipped with a level 4 reference hospital. The operationalization of
this hospital complex is now a palpable reality. This jewel illustrates well
the noble ambitions of the President of the Republic which are translated in
the roadmap 2025 notably the one contained in point 1 of axis 1 which consists
in offering an identity and guaranteeing health coverage and access to basic
services to all.
This
is a hospital with more than 700 care units. Construction work began on 19
February 2019, just over 3 years ago. One of the main ambitions of this modern
health centre is to reduce health evacuations abroad. « According to
the provisional activity indicators, the Dogta-Lafiè Hospital, located in the
centre of Greater Lomé, will eventually serve 30 to 40% of the Togolese
population and will attract, due to its advantageous pricing and the quality of
its health care offer, a new population that previously did not go to hospitals »,
explained Ingrid Awadé, Director General of the National Social Security Fund
(CNSS).
« Among
other things, it will make it possible to improve the supply of hospital care
through high quality health services, to increase the level of technical
facilities in order to limit the need for medical evacuations and their
corollaries in terms of exorbitant costs, and to contribute to the improvement
of the Togolese hospital system as a whole, thus participating in the
conditions for the operationalisation of universal health insurance... »,
Ingrid Awade continued.
For
Professor Moustafa Mijiyawa, Minister of Health, Public Hygiene and Universal
Access to Health Care, this hospital will enrich the country's health pyramid.
It is a government response to the demands of the Togolese population for
quality health care.
Located
in Togblékopé in the prefecture of Agoenyivé, the Dogta-Lafiè hospital is one
of the largest and most vital for the well-being of the population. The specialities offered by Dogta-Lafia are
medicine and medical specialities, surgery and surgical specialities,
obstetrics, paediatrics and neonatology, oncology, interventional cardiology,
biology and anatomopathology laboratory, hospitalisation and an integrated
pharmacy.
Thanks
to its top-of-the-range equipment, it should serve a large part of the population
and, because of its advantageous pricing and its range of care, attract a new
population that previously did not go to hospitals. For the first year of
operation, this hospital will receive at least 80,000 patients, according to
the National Social Security Fund (CNSS), the project's sponsor.
The
hospital has already been providing patient care since 1 March 2023,
particularly in the areas of imaging, radiography and mammography. Its other
services will therefore be operational after the inauguration.
As
a prelude to the commissioning of this hospital, the Société de gestion
hospitalière (SOGEHP), in charge of the operation, launched in June 2022, an
operation to open up its capital coupled with a fund raising. The aim was to diversify its shareholding to
the tune of 49.975%, for a total capital of 25.01 billion CFA francs.
