Service d'Assistance à personne à Domicile et dans les Hôpitaux de l'ONG
Volontaires Internationaux pour la Santé en Afrique (SADH-VISA) initiated on
Sunday 23 April at the Maison du Bien-Etre in Lomé a recreational outing for
the elderly. The aim of this meeting was to help the elderly to have fun, to
develop and to break with isolation and above all to reflect on their role and
importance in society.
As
time goes by, older people are less likely to go out. This can lead to
frustration, isolation and illness. In order to contribute to the health and
well-being of the elderly, SADH VISA, which is constantly committed to the
development of the elderly, has initiated a recreational outing for the
elderly. A moment of friendly relaxation and fruitful exchanges between
seniors.
According
to Rosalie Benthywa Johnson, Director of SADH VISA, the objective is for the
elderly to reintegrate into society, to regain a taste for life and not to feel
neglected. « The objective of
this recreational outing is to get them out of their corners, talk to each
other, play games and recreate a little. During the meeting, they felt joyful,
happy to have learned something about their health. To fight against loneliness
and isolation and to break the isolation of the elderly, SADH-VISA is there to
support them », she said.
Getting
together with other elderly people and sharing a good time is very beneficial
for their health. In this context, Rosalie Benthywa Johnson pleaded that at the
national level, actions should be further strengthened in favour of the health
of the elderly and taken into account in all programmes and projects. « We appeal to the government to help
us financially or materially to support our elderly people who are abandoned
for lack of means in their homes », she said. She also invited the
whole population to give more affection to the elderly. The attachment to the culture of respect,
solidarity and listening to the elderly are cardinal African values that must
be maintained and promoted.
