Togo has a new national strategic plan to fight against tuberculosis. The document, which is in line with the World Health Organisation's (WHO) « Stop TB » strategy, was the subject of a validation workshop held on 04 and 05 April 2023 in Lomé. The new strategic plan covers the period 2024-2026. The main objective is to « reduce the incidence of TB in Togo from 33 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 2021 to 23 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 2026 ». The validation work brought together several actors from all levels of the country's health pyramid, including civil society organisations and other ministerial departments involved in the fight against TB.

Tuberculosis remains a public health problem in Togo, where 2,500 to 3,000 cases are detected each year. In 2019, the incidence of tuberculosis in the country is estimated at 36 cases/100,000 inhabitants with a mortality of 3.6 cases/100,000 inhabitants according to the WHO. Since 2010, there has been a continuous decline in the incidence of tuberculosis in the country. However, there is a gap in the notification of new cases which can be explained by a deficit in screening. To this end, the National Tuberculosis Control Programme (PNLT) is working to increase the accessibility of patients to treatment, through the creation of new screening and treatment centres throughout the country.
