When
the kidneys do not function properly, the body is gradually poisoned by waste
that is no longer eliminated. In the case of chronic kidney failure, the kidney
damage is progressive, hence the need to act as quickly as possible. The
symptoms appear late after the onset of the disease because of the efficiency
of the kidneys.
The
main role of the kidneys is to filter the blood to regulate the amount of water
and eliminate waste products through urine. These wastes are substances that
are found in the body and, if present in too large quantities, become toxic.
The kidneys are therefore responsible for eliminating them as they go along.
What
is chronic kidney disease?
Chronic renal failure is a deterioration of the kidneys and particularly of their capacity to filter blood. Kidney failure can be acute or chronic. Acute kidney function loss occurs over a period of hours to days, but with a high potential for recovery depending on the origin of the disease. In contrast, chronic kidney disease is a much more extensive process that worsens inexorably over time. The recovery potential is often much lower.
Warning
signs
Symptoms
appear late after the onset of the disease because of the efficiency of the
kidneys. This is because the kidneys can increase their output by up to twice
what is normally required. So when some parts of the kidney are no longer
efficient, others can compensate and mask the problem. « Chronic kidney
disease is a silent killer. It usually progresses so slowly that signs are
often not visible for several years. These signs will most often appear when
the problem is advanced, often when 70% or 80% of the kidneys' capacity is
reduced », explains Dr Hassane Traoré, a nephrologist at the Yalgado
Ouédraogo University Hospital in Burkina Faso.
The
signs, when they appear, are not very specific. These signs include chronic
fatigue, daytime drowsiness, sleep or appetite problems, swollen feet,
vomiting, decreased or increased urination.
« The accumulation of waste products in the body during chronic renal failure and the failure to produce certain substances weakens the body and exposes it to complications that are very disabling, such as high blood pressure, anaemia, and heart and blood vessel disease », says Dr Hassane Traoré, a nephrologist. Confirmation of the disease is based on laboratory tests and medical imaging.
Prevention
To
prevent kidney failure, here is a recipe suggested by Kpônou Tobossi,
Specialist in food hygiene and quality, Dietotherapist.
Recipe:
03 large onions (the size of an orange), 01 bunch of parsley (with roots if
possible) 01 L of drinking water. Cut each onion into 4 parts, add the litre of
water and bring to the boil for ten minutes. Just after the ten minutes, pour
all the parsley already well washed and cut into the water and the onions on
the fire. Mix well and leave on the fire for another five minutes before
removing from the fire. Let the mixture infuse for 15 minutes before straining.
Dosage:
01 glass-bamboo or 1/4 litre of the herbal tea + juice of 01 lime, mix and
drink at noon and evening shortly before meals and then drink the 3rd glass
shortly before going to bed. Repeat the same procedure every day for at least
06-08 weeks and judge. This is just a prevention, so 02 glasses per day and per
48 hours for 01 month is enough. You will have to repeat it from time to time.
