Urine
can reveal a person's state of health. Therefore, always check the colour and
appearance of the urine. Sometimes the urine becomes foamy. Is this a sign of
any disease?
Foamy
urine can be the result of many processes taking place inside the body. It can be a sign of disease.
Sign
of kidney disease
The
kidneys play a major role in the body, filtering water and blood to remove
certain toxic wastes and producing urine. « In some cases of kidney
disease, such as kidney infections, kidney failure or stones in the kidneys,
urine may become frothy. Kidney disease is usually accompanied by swelling that
starts in the feet and eventually affects the whole body. However, the
appearance of these swellings shows that the disease is already at an advanced
stage and requires urgent medical attention, otherwise it can be fatal »,
explains Dr Bogne Raphael, Cameroonian
general practitioner, founder and president of "Allô docteur".
Signs
of a urinary tract infection
When
bacteria invade the urinary tract, the passage of urine can also produce frothy
urine. In the case of a urinary tract
infection, this foam can sometimes be accompanied by burning during urination,
pain in the lower abdomen and a very frequent urge to urinate
Source
of diabetes or high blood pressure
Frothy
urine can also be a sign of diabetes or high blood pressure that has been
hidden in the body for a long time but remains silent. « One of the
signs of these conditions is excessive protein loss in the urine, which makes
the urine foamy. Generally, excessive protein in the urine shows that the
diabetes or hypertension is already advanced and that the kidneys are already
small and severely diseased », says Dr Bogne.
Advice
« There are still many causes of frothy urine and many of them are diseases that require diagnosis and treatment as soon as possible. Thus, starting treatment in time is essential in order to prevent the disease from progressing and having dangerous complications in the body », advises the specialist.
Nevertheless,
there are some practical tips that can be beneficial. « It is important to maintain good
hydration by drinking plenty of water. It is recommended to drink about 1.5 to
2 litres of water per day. It is necessary to adopt a healthy and balanced
diet, and also by practising sports regularly to improve the health of the
kidneys », he added.
