At every stage of life, the human body goes through a series of problems that need to be addressed. One of the most well-known problems is changes in eating habits. Here are some of the changes that occur in eating habits at the ages of 30, 40, 50 and 60.

The body changes: hormone production fluctuates, metabolism changes, muscle tone decreases. Fortunately, there are nutrients that affect these changes and healthy eating habits can have a significant impact on health.

Eating habits at 30

Turning 30 is an event that does not go unnoticed. At this age, two things can happen: a craving to eat everything in sight, or conversely, a desire to eat nothing at all. The anxiety hormone cortisol can influence both. In women in particular, because of the hormonal increase or decrease at the end of the menstrual cycle, appetite changes.

Around the age of 35, there is often a quite impressive change in weight. The loss of vitamins and nutrients can lead to eating disorders: one feels like eating chocolate, sweets, sweet or salty cakes. If no special attention is paid, weight gain and a deficiency of magnesium and calcium can occur. It is also at this time that many women decide to have a child, and to forget the stress of age, they eat more. This extra food is not really necessary for the sake of the baby. Pregnancy is not an excuse to eat more. Eat a healthy diet, with foods rich in calcium, iron and vitamins. The body itself will take care of keeping the baby in good shape.

Changes at 40

At the age of 40, there are psychological and physical changes. It is normal not to have the same weight as at 20.  Even if you are on a diet, it is important to eat more vegetables, fruit and milk and to stop eating junk food at all costs. During this age, digestive problems are more prevalent and appetite increases considerably. Insulin resistance can also develop at this time of life. When the body does not secrete enough insulin, sugar can increase in the blood, instead of being stored in the cells. When the cells do not receive the level of sugar they need, they use up the body's energy, which leads to changes in eating habits, especially in carbohydrates. It is at this age that the process of developing diseases such as hypertension and diabetes can start.

The 50s, the age of women

Some women are overwhelmed by estrogen levels, due to the menopause, which occurs around the age of 50. This causes eating disorders that lead to the desire to eat more carbohydrates and sugar as if one were insulin resistant. This is why most women at this age start to gain a lot of weight.

However, this is not entirely negative, this weight becomes a kind of protective instrument or natural defence mechanism against the fragility of bones and muscles. That is, fat can protect against falls or blows, which could be really harmful at this age. At 50, eat a balanced diet and increase your intake of calcium-rich foods. Although fat can protect your bones, too much fat still affects your health. It is therefore important to monitor your weight, blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Get regular physical activity.

At age 60

There may be changes in the elasticity of the gut as you age, but this does not mean that your stomach has shrunk with age. This happens because your digestive system tells the brain that it is full by mistake, and you have not eaten enough. Because of this, changes in eating habits occur, which will lead to eating less than before.

At this age, pay attention to your weight. This is fundamental. If there are extra kilos, there is a great risk of falling and going to hospital. But if there is underweight, or a rapid loss of weight, it can be a sign of an illness.

Monitor these dietary changes

Understand the effects of age on the gastrointestinal tract as these changes can affect nutritional needs as we age. The human body tends to be more exposed to abdominal or visceral fat as we age. We start to lose the ability to move regularly and cardiovascular capacity.

Often around the age of 35, a person who has a sedentary lifestyle and a poor diet starts to become more fragile. That is why it is essential to be aware that eating habits change over time, so that the necessary precautions can be taken.
