Low wages: precarious work accelerates cognitive decline

Low wages: precarious work accelerates cognitive decline
Extract from the article: Travailler continuellement pour gagner le salaire minimum fait vieillir plus rapidement le cerveau, accélérant

Working continuously to earn minimum wage makes the brain age faster, accelerating cognitive decline. When someone is in a low-paying job, their brain ages faster than someone who makes a good living. This was recently revealed by researchers at Columbia University in the United States. The results of this study were published in the journal « American Journal of Epidemiology » and presented at the Alzheimer Association’s International Conference, held from July 31 to August 4, 2022. According to the results, compared to workers who have never had low wages, people who have always earned low incomes have had their memory altered more quickly at an advanced age. According to the authors, adults in low-paying positions had an additional year of cognitive aging over a 10-year period. According to the authors, this research shows that earning low incomes for several years is associated with an accelerated decline in memory later in life.
