Addictive substances used in the workplace can lead to serious addiction problems.  In Togo, a large proportion of the working population is affected, mainly through the quest for performance.  Drugs, medication, alcohol, caffeine, energy drinks, tobacco - addictions to psychotropic or psychoactive substances developed in the workplace represent a veritable health scourge.

In Togo, they affect thousands of working or unemployed people.  Executives, blue-collar workers, craftsmen, truck drivers and others have the highest percentage of risky alcohol consumption. Paradoxically, these work-related addictions increase the rate of presenteeism in the workplace.  For many professions, alcohol consumption helps employees to get to work, for example, when they have to work shifted hours; it can also help them manage everything they have to do outside of work, or help them to sleep and therefore be in better shape.  To prevent addictive behavior in the workplace, we need to encourage communication within the company. We need to give priority to dialogue, so that employees can express their difficulties.
