In hot weather, water loss is more significant. The risk is dehydration. This risk is particularly acute among the elderly and young children : the elderly tend to forget to hydrate.
They
may not drink the quantity their bodies need. The sensation of thirst is lost.
Most of the time, the organs have less reserve for adaptation - in other words,
their bodies won't adapt well to dehydration, whereas younger people's bodies
do. And the first organ to suffer is the kidney.
This
leads to kidney failure. This can lead to cardiac arrest, heart rhythm
disorders, convulsions and even coma. Medical staff need to pay close attention
to patient hydration. But to avoid a hospital stay due to dehydration, drink
and hydrate every day.
