The school vacations have just begun. The Institut National d'Assurance Maladie (INAM) is reminding partner clinics and hospitals of the rules to ensure that pupils in the School AMU program can continue to receive medical treatment, even without classes. This program offers free medical coverage to pupils in Togo's public schools.
No need for the usual access voucher: to be treated, a pupil must show an access voucher issued by his or her school. But during the vacations and bank holidays, it's impossible to get one.
So INAM has come up with a solution; registered students will be accepted.
What you need to show to be treated
Health centers are asked to accept one of these documents: a 2024-2025 school card, a certificate of school attendance, a report card, or even a school record book. These papers will enable care providers to verify that the student is entitled to care, even when he or she is not in class.
INAM insists that the student's name or school code be noted on the medical claim form. This will help us to process files more quickly and reimburse treatment without any problems.
Vigilance and transparency
Through circular no. 18/2025/INAM, the institution ensures that medical care for students continues uninterrupted during non-school periods, specifying procedures to prevent any abuse or fraud.
The School AMU program is an opportunity for Togolese students. By reminding people of these rules, INAM wants to ensure that everyone has fair and secure access to healthcare.
The idea is also to avoid schemes that could undermine this solidarity-based system. INAM wants to maintain the quality of care, even outside the school year, and is calling on everyone to play their part in ensuring that the program runs smoothly.
