Sleep quality plays an important role in the risk of developing hypertension: insomnia, poor sleep quality, obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, frequent nocturnal awakenings - all these can have a negative impact on blood pressure.

Against this backdrop, night-time sleep problems or not, could napping be of interest in cases of diagnosed and treated hypertension, but not necessarily well-controlled ?

According to a team of Greek researchers, allowing oneself a short nap in the early afternoon helps lower blood pressure in hypertensive people, and may help prevent its onset in others. A short nap (around twenty minutes) some time after lunch can reduce cardiovascular risk by 10%.

In other words, hypertensive patients who can arrange it should not hesitate to take a nap, which is known to benefit other functions (such as memory). And if hypertension is not present, this short period of sleep may help to reduce the risks - although this remains to be precisely evaluated.
