Heat is often uncomfortable
and causes many inconveniences for expectant mothers. A sensation of heavy
legs, swollen ankles, discomfort, excessive sweating, are among the effects of
heat. Circulatory disorders, with the occurrence of varicose veins, can also
appear. Why? Heat causes a dilation of the blood vessels, blood stagnates, and
circulates less well in the veins. Consequently, the legs feel heavier. This
phenomenon is accentuated in pregnant women whose body temperature is naturally
higher. Metabolism increases during pregnancy: more energy is needed to make
the baby. Another risk is dehydration. Heat can also lead to possible urinary
problems and the onset of hemorrhoids.
Preventing
heavy
Legs Swelling of the hands and feet spares few pregnant women. It appears especially in the second half of pregnancy and worsens during periods of high heat. To some extent, this type of reaction can be prevented. At the office, try to change positions frequently. When seated, you can also elevate your legs to facilitate blood circulation. Avoid very tight shoes, as well as excessively high heels. Walking remains the best exercise to combat leg swelling. In the evening upon returning home, it is also advisable to take a warm bath for relief.
Drink,
drink, and drink again
During pregnancy, it is
important to drink frequently, especially in hot weather. Do not hesitate to
drink water: 1.5 liters is good, 2 liters is even better. When pregnant, you
eliminate more water. Drinking enough is the best solution to prevent urinary
infections. It is also, along with a suitable diet, the ultimate remedy for
combating hemorrhoids. However, reduce overly sugary drinks.
Dress
lightly
If there is one advantage
to being pregnant in hot weather, it is that you can dress lightly. Opt for
comfortable outfits made of natural materials such as linen, cotton. These
clothes showcase the beautiful belly and allow the body to breathe.
Furthermore, stay in the shade. It is important to avoid taking risks, refrain
from sun exposure during the hottest hours.
