Joints are the backbone of the body, enabling us to move and perform a wide range of activities. Unfortunately, this daily stress can damage them over time. The result is rheumatism, including osteoarthritis, which considerably reduces quality of life. Osteoarthritis is a disease that affects the joints and causes annoying pain on a daily basis.

Here are 5 superfoods to prevent and relieve the pain that can occur at any stage of life.

Turmeric

Thousands of studies have been published on this spice over the last ten years. Its polyphenolic pigments, known as curcuminoids, have revealed major anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Turmeric therefore has a real beneficial effect on osteoarthritis, helping to limit the stiffness and pain associated with this disease.

Recipe: 03 tablespoons honey, 2 teaspoons turmeric and 1 teaspoon ginger powder. Mix all the ingredients in a glass. Drink 2 to 3 teaspoons of this mixture while salivating.

Ginger

Ginger calms nausea and stimulates bile secretion, making digestion easier. Its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties are due to the gingerol, shogaol and zingerone it contains. As a result, this spice is a real ally in the fight against joint pain and osteoarthritis.

Recipe 1: Grate or thinly slice a piece of fresh ginger (about 3-5 cm), pour boiling water over it and leave to infuse for about ten minutes. Add lemon, honey or cinnamon to taste. Drink 2 cups a day.

Recipe 2: 02 pineapple slices, 1 fresh ginger root, 200 ml water, 01 tablespoon honey.Peel the ginger and cut into 4. In a blender, finely blend the pineapple and ginger until you have a smooth purée.Add the water and blend again. Strain the mixture.Add the honey and blend well.Chill the pineapple juice for at least 2 hours before serving. You can add lemon juice to liven up the drink.

Walnuts

Omega 3 helps fight inflammation. Walnuts contain large quantities of them. Introduce walnuts into your diet on a daily basis: they will relieve the joint pain associated with osteoarthritis. This oleaginous fruit contains the ideal proportion of omega-3 fatty acids (compared with omega-6 fatty acids) to have in the diet.

Cabbage

Cabbage is rich in vitamins B1, B6, C, K, iron and manganese, as well as antioxidants. It is particularly recommended as part of a diet to combat osteoarthritis.Cabbage should be eaten raw or only lightly cooked, as it loses certain health properties (glucosinolates) during cooking.

Recipe: 100g cabbage, 1/2 pineapple, 1 ginger root, 03 fresh mint leaves.Quickly wash the cabbage leaves, dry them and cut them into pieces.Peel the pineapple and cut into pieces. Grind the white cabbage, pineapple, ginger and mint leaves in a juicer.Serve with an ice cube or crushed ice.

Grapefruit

One of the causes of osteoarthritis is the deposition of inorganic calcium on the cartilage; inorganic calcium, which can be found in pasteurised milk, for example, has no enzymes and is very difficult for the body to assimilate. These deposits can be accelerated by a poor diet. The blood will deposit them on the cartilage, making it harder. Once the calcium deposits are well established, the joint will deteriorate more and more.  These inorganic calcium elements must therefore be dissolved.Grapefruit is the food of choice for this.It contains organic salicylic acid, whose primary role is to destroy deposits of foreign matter on the joints.Grapefruit also contains flavonoids, powerful antioxidants that help combat cell ageing and inflammation. Grapefruit peel contains soluble fibres, whichhelps to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Recipe: 1 lime, 1 grapefruit, 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger, 2 tablespoons caster sugar, 25 cl water Pour the water, sugar and ginger into a saucepan. Heat over medium heat until boiling.Remove from the heat and leave to cool.Strain the syrup through a sieve or cheesecloth into a large carafe.Cut the lemons and grapefruit in half and squeeze out the juice using a citrus press. Pour the lemon juice and grapefruit juice into the carafe with the ginger syrup.Stir well.

Be careful if you are taking medication.Grapefruit can destroy the effects of certain medicines.
