Psychoactive
substances such as drugs, chicha and alcohol sometimes seem to promise pleasure
and relaxation. In reality, however, they are devious traps. They lead young
people into a spiral of dependence, suffering and isolation. Far from bringing
the freedom and happiness they seem to promise, they chain them in destructive
cycles, jeopardising their physical and mental health, as well as their future.
The Minister for Grassroots Development, Youth and Youth Employment, Myriam
Dossou-d'Almeida, forcefully reminds young people that "drugs, chicha and alcohol are not friends,
but enemies".
For
the Minister for Youth, they must choose life rather than the dark path that
these substances lead to. "As young
Togolese, it is our responsibility to take care of ourselves and our future. We
have the potential to become fulfilled citizens, role models, proud of our roots
and determined to forge our own destiny", declared Myriam
Dossou-d'Almeida.
The
Minister's appeal goes beyond a simple warning. It is an invitation to all
players in society to be aware of their influence on young people. Event
organisers, in particular, have the power to shape young people's choices and
attitudes. It is their duty to promote positive values and not to encourage the
use of harmful substances.
"Do not expose them to the risk of accidents,
violence or illness. Don't deprive them of their potential and their
future. On the contrary, encourage them
to adopt healthy and respectful behaviours. Offer them recreational, cultural
and sporting activities that encourage their personal development and social
integration. Show them that it is possible to have fun and relax without
resorting to drugs, chicha or alcohol", she added.
Youth
is a time of discovery, adventure and growth. It's a time for exploring the
world, seeking new experiences and dreaming big. But it's crucial to remember
that the choices we make today have an impact on our future.
